General criteria for evaluating grant applications to the TRIAD Fund of The Dallas Foundation
- Grants will be made to nonprofit organizations, not individuals.
- Programs or services can only benefit current and former military personnel serving in Iraq or Afghanistan and their families.
- Program services must be provided in the area of Texas to be covered by The Dallas Foundation as indicated in the TRIAD Fund map.
- Programs must relate to the current mission of the agency.
- Successful applications will demonstrate that the agency is currently serving military personnel and their families in Texas or has the experience to address an unmet need.
- Agencies must meet the general criteria required by The Dallas Foundation:
- Mission that is a match with purpose of the Fund
- Effective and efficient leadership and program delivery
- Active and involved Board of Directors
- Sustainable financial plan
Specific funding priorities for the TRIAD Fund of The Dallas Foundation are:

The Texas Resources for Iraq-Afghanistan Deployment (TRIAD) Fund of The Dallas Foundation has awarded $9.4 million to fifty-four (54) nonprofit organizations to assist military personnel, who are serving or have served in Iraq or Afghanistan, and their families.

American Red Cross, SmithCounty Chapter
To coordinate comprehensive services, including case management in the East Texas area. Approximately twelve hundred Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and family members reside in the East Texas area. The Red Cross will provide intake and assessment, referral to an appropriate specialist and additional support services.

A non-profit benefiting children and spouses of deceased soldiers from Afghanistan and Iraq. Disability Rights Advocates for Technology (DRAFT)
To provide Segways and Segvators through a nationwide application process. Segs4Vets distributes Segways and SegVators to eligible candidates, based on the organization's assessment of need, enthusiasm during physical therapy, and level of service. Accompanying the Segways, SegVators are lifts that allow the individual s to get in and out of cars; they were developed specifically for the Segs4Vets program.

Helping Unite Gold Star Survivors
To provide additional support for the Gold Star Families who have lost a loved one in battle in Iraq or Afghanistan. The grant allowed the organization to hire three full-time client outreach representatives and to start a regular Mother’s Day Out program. They are now able to talk with Gold Star Survivors throughout the TDF service area as well as meet at their facility on Ft.Hood.

Independent Electrical Contractors Foundation
To provide support for their 4-year Education and Apprenticeship program. The program provides compensated on-the-job training and employment assistance that ultimately results in becoming a licensed electrician. In addition, many of the apprenticeships lead to full time positions upon completion of the program. The program includes all training, books, tutoring, workforce readiness, materials, final license test fees, and instructor time at no charge for military service members.

Mental Health America of Greater Dallas - Operation Healthy Reunions
To support mental health care and case management, especially in cases of PTSD, TBI, MST and family reintegration issues. Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and family members will receive free mental health services. MHA provides intake and assessment, referrals to appropriate specialists and additional support services.

Mental Health Association of TarrantCounty
For Operation Healthy Reunions, which provides assessment to 1,000 and free mental health care and case management to approximately 400 Iraq and Afghanistan veterans and their family members. The Chisholm Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross and MHA – TarrantCounty will provide identification, intake and assessment, referral to an appropriate specialist and additional support services.

Metroplex Military Charitable Trust
For the purchase of three wheelchair vans to transport veterans wounded in Iraq or Afghanistan to outpatient treatment appointments at the Dallas VA Polytrauma Unit, the Bonham VA Medical Center and the Fort Worth VA Outpatient Clinic. The vans are driven by DFW Honor Guard volunteers and will serve veterans in the North and East Texas area.

Mustard Seed Ministries of East Texas
To provide interactive computer technology in community centers in East Texas. This installation will include internet capability with VIDItalk, allowing soldiers and families to communicate via video conference. Soldier's Angels
To provide care and relief to military service men and women in the Dallas and Tyler areas. Soldier's Angels works closely with the VA to fulfill requests that are outside the mental and physical healthcare that the VA provides. For emergency assistance and programs for Iraq and Afghanistan veterans at the TexasMilitarySupportCenter at FortHood. The Center is open 24 hours a day and serves 2,000 Guard and Reserve soldiers per month. This grant has been expended, but Julie is a wonderful person to know in the Killeen area. She is well-informed of the needs of soldiers and families in this area.

To expand the emergency financial assistance and short-term interest-free loan program to increase both the number served and the amount of funding available per request from $600 to $1,000. The other initative is Young Heroes Youth Summer Camps for children of National Guard members.
